Charity Run

@ justgiving.com

Matt Aston & Kev Winperis are running the New York marathon. Please visit the justgiving.com website to donate money to Cancer Research UK.
"I have decided to run the New York marathon and as anyone that knows me will testify, I most definately am not a natural distance runner! However I've always greatly admired people who've run a marathon and figured that I should bite the bullet and give it a go and in doing so raise a shed-load of cash for Cancer Research UK"

Sarah Palin - The shadow

@ philipcarrgomm.wordpress.com
"She stands for:
–Small town values — a denial of America’s global role, a return to petty, small-minded parochialism.

–Ignorance of world affairs — a repudiation of the need to repair America’s image abroad.

–Family values — a code for walling out anybody who makes a claim for social justice. Such strangers, being outside the family, don’t need to be heeded.

–Rigid stands on guns and abortion — a scornful repudiation that these issues can be negotiated with those who disagree.

–Patriotism — the usual fallback in a failed war.

–”Reform” — an italicized term, since in addition to cleaning out corruption and excessive spending, one also throws out anyone who doesn’t fit your ideology."
and there's a nice video of Matt Damon slagging her off too.

Newcastle United for sale

After sacking Alan Shearer, Mike Ashley has given a statement that Newcastle United is up for sale. Which I have put in the comments (click where it says comments below). I have also included the reply from nufc.com as I agree with them.
Other reports; "The hard sell" from Black & White & Read All Over, "Ashley puts Newcastle up for sale" from the BBC and The Journal. "Ashley to Newcastle fans: I get the message" from The Daily Telegraph. "Ashley bows to fan pressure and puts Newcastle up for sale" from The Independent and Financial Times. "I'm selling up, says emotional Ashley" from The Guardian (by mackem Louise Taylor).

Quote of the week

The best quote I've heard this week is from Charles Dickens.
"I don't know the American gentleman and God forgive me for putting those two words together".

The best quote I heard this summer was immediately after the Olympics 100m final. Micheal Johnson said
"Micheal Phelps, Micheal who?"

Send Custom MP3 Ecards

postcard.fm
"You can spend a good chunk of time searching the web for an ecard that isn't annoying, cheesy, ad-ridden, or some combination of all three. Or you can grab a picture, choose a song, and send a super-clean, customized ecard through Postcard.fm. Simply upload an image file and MP3 to the free, no-registration-required site, add a message, and mail it out. The recipient gets a link to your e-postcard page, with no ads in sight (at least for now). This means you can be as cute, clever, snarky, or affectionate as you want, rather than letting some oddly-shaped critters express your wishes".

No confidence in Mike Ashley

@ true-faith.co.uk

"Become a signatory to a letter of NO CONFIDENCE to Mike Ashley

Dear Mr Ashley,

This publication would like to make it abundantly clear that it has NO CONFIDENCE whatsoever in the management structure at Newcastle United which includes the position of Dennis Wise as Executive Director and Managing Director, Derek Llambias.

This publication would like to make it clear it has considerable doubts as to your suitability to own Newcastle United Football Club and questions strongly your financial commitment to running the club in a manner which will bring sustainable progress.

Under your stewardship the club has failed to invest sufficiently on the playing side and as a result we have a threadbare squad which is extremely vulnerable to injuries and suspensions in this new season.

We call upon you to remove Wise and Llambias from their positions of seniority over the team manager and to make a public statement about the funding available to build a squad worthy of the name of Newcastle United and which the support the club enjoys deserves.

true faith, Newcastle United Fanzine also at www.true-faith.co.uk

If you would like your name to be included on the list of signatories to this letter please e-mail editor@true-faith.co.uk with your full name and seaon ticket number before Monday 8/Sep/08 when we will be sending the letter to Mr Ashley. Please bring this note to the attention of all other parties who you believe may be sympathetic to its contents."

Wimbledon 2009 tickets

@ wimbledon.org

"As long ago as 1924, the Club introduced a public ballot whereby the majority of Centre, No.1 and No.2 Court tickets are sold in advance.

The Public Ballot has always been substantially oversubscribed.
Entry into the Ballot does not automatically entitle applicants to tickets for Wimbledon, but a place in the draw for a pair of tickets.

Successful applicants are selected at random by computer. It is
not possible to request tickets for specific days or courts, as the
day and court offered are chosen randomly by a computerised selection process."

"To enter the draw for 2009 ballot you must first obtain an application form from 1st August 2008. (Requests postmarked after 15th December 2008 will NOT be processed.) Completed forms must be returned no later than 31st December 2008.

Please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope DL size (110mm x 220mm, 4 1/4 " x 8 5/8") - to:

Ticket Office
AELTC
P.O. BOX 98
London SW19 5AE

Only ONE application per household is permitted. Please do not ask for more than one form: we will void your applications".
