10 Actors Who Passed on Film Roles

@ toptenz.net

"Sometimes we can’t imagine another actor or actress in the starring role of our favorite films. Believe it or not, many of the most famous and beloved roles in some of the biggest movies belonged to another actor before they had to drop out or pass on the role. Some of these missed opportunities seem like good ideas, while others will make you cringe. Camera, Lights, List!"

The 10 greatest episodes of Doctor Who ever

@ telegraph.co.uk

"With the final episode of series four approaching, the Daily Telegraph's in-house team of Doctor Who buffs (including, we might add, Gavin Fuller, who won Mastermind in 1993 with Doctor Who as his specialist subject) has compiled a countdown of the sci-fi spectacular's finest ever episodes. They've been selected from both the original era (1963-89) and the new (from 2005); in some cases, multi-part storylines have been counted as single episodes".

While I'm on the subject... from 2004

FootballPictureQuiz.blogspot.com

"The players featured here are amongst the best footballers that have ever graced the game.

Each question will be the same, namely "Who is this?"together with, a photo of, the international record of, and some text (taken from Wikipedia) about, a great footballer.

Each player has retired from international football, so there will be no current internationals.

No-one will get them all, some will be easy, some will be difficult. No cheating, the quiz is designed for you to answer before you navigate away from the page.

When you reach the bottom of the page click "Older Posts" for more questions.

Answers can be submitted to me (tim[AT]ne99[DOT]com), or you can put your answers in the comments."

Set a Guinness World Record.

"Sounds like a good deal, right? All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours - it’s that easy. We're not asking you to swallow a sword or to balance 30 spoons on your face, although that would be kind of awesome.

The official date for the launch of Firefox 3 is June 17, 2008. Join our community and this effort by pledging today".

Cheap Train Tickets

@ moneysavingexpert.com

moneysavingexpert has written a new guide.

"Train Ticket Tricks to save £100s. Find hidden cheap fares.
The whole train fare system’s ridiculously illogical; which is why big savings come from hidden rules. Split ticketing is a classic example…a standard London to Penzance return costs £259, yet the train stops in Plymouth so instead buy four separate tickets (London to Plymouth; Plymouth to Penzance and vice-versa) and you can travel on the same train at the same time for £48. My guide to all the tricks has been totally re-researched and rewritten on the back of the recent changes to the fare structure.".

Adblock Plus

Adblock Plus

Following on from this article in The Guardian. I have downloaded and installed Adblock Plus. It blocks adverts appearing on the web pages you view with Firefox.

"Ever been annoyed by all those ads and banners on the internet that often take longer to download than everything else on the page? Install Adblock Plus now and get rid of them. Right-click on a banner and choose “Adblock” from the context menu — the banner won’t be downloaded again. Maybe even replace parts of the banner address with star symbols to block similar banners as well. Or choose a filter subscription, then even this simple task will usually be unnecessary: the filter subscription will block most advertisements fully automatically":.
